Browser GPU Device Reports

Device-focused reports explain which mode to use, what can distort the result, and how browser GPU behavior differs across phones, laptops and desktop GPUs.

Historical archive: every result shown below was measured with the previous WebGL 1.0 engine. These rows are not comparable with results from the current WebGL 2.0 benchmark. New WebGL 2.0 reference rows will be published only after controlled retesting.

iPhone browser GPU results

Mobile Safari can hit a strong Light-mode baseline, but repeated runs are limited by temperature and battery policy.

iPhone and iPad users checking whether Safari is GPU accelerated.

LightSafariWebGL 1.0 (legacy)606,00093%
iPad Air M1
Apple M1 8-core GPU
MediumSafariWebGL 1.0 (legacy)5616,80089%

Cautions

  • Low Power Mode can reduce sustained GPU clocks.
  • Compare the second run, not the shader-compilation warmup run.
  • Let the device cool before repeated Heavy or Extreme testing.

MacBook WebGL GPU results

Apple Silicon laptops perform well in Medium mode, but fanless models can lose stability during long stress loops.

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro users comparing Safari and Chrome results.

MediumChromeWebGL 1.0 (legacy)6118,30090%

Cautions

  • Do not compare Safari and Chrome unless the same browser is used on both machines.
  • Fanless MacBook Air models should be tested after a cooldown period.
  • External displays can change effective resolution and score.

Integrated vs dedicated GPU results

Dedicated desktop GPUs pull away in Heavy mode, while integrated GPUs should use Light mode for a useful baseline.

Cautions

  • Laptops may run the browser on the integrated GPU unless the OS graphics setting is changed.
  • Heavy-mode scores are not comparable to Light-mode scores.
  • Chrome, Edge and Firefox can choose different graphics backends.
