Want to know how your phone GPU stacks up — without installing an app? Volume Shader BM runs in any mobile browser with WebGL 2.0 and gives you FPS, frame time and stability in under a minute.

Quick answer

  • Works in Safari (iPhone / iPad), Chrome, Edge, Firefox on Android.
  • Start in Light or Medium mode — Heavy will throttle most phones quickly.
  • Plug in power, disable battery saver, give the device 1–2 minutes to cool between runs.
  • FPS is the headline metric, but stability matters most on phones.

iPhone & iPad

Open Safari, hit Start Test. iOS aggressively throttles WebGL once the chassis warms up, which is why a fresh iPhone shows a much higher peak FPS than the same phone after two minutes of testing. Tips:

  • Turn off Low Power Mode in Settings.
  • Use a phone with at least 30% battery — iOS caps GPU clocks when low.
  • Keep the screen cool. A case can trap heat and cost 20–40% FPS.
  • Don't enable Private Browsing on older iOS — WebGL 2.0 can fall back to software.

Android

On Android the difference between Chrome and Samsung Internet is usually small. The bigger factors are:

  • Game mode / Performance mode on by default? Turn it on for testing.
  • Adaptive battery / battery saver should be off during the run.
  • Some phones throttle the GPU when the display is on at high brightness.
  • Recent Android builds expose chrome://gpu just like desktop — useful to verify GPU is active.

What FPS should I expect?

Flagship phones (recent iPhone Pro models, top-tier Snapdragon / Tensor) usually land in the 30–60 FPS range in Medium. Mid-range phones often sit at 15–30 FPS in Medium, and Light mode is where you'll get the most comparable numbers across devices. See the FPS result guide for full tiers.
